Meeting #1: (Limited to 48 University Students)
Agenda: The Role of Artificial Intelligence in Sustainable Tourism Development
Simulated UN Body: United Nations World Tourism Organization (UNWTO)
Committee A: Economic Impacts of AI in the Tourism Industry
Issue:
AI is transforming tourism through automation, smart booking systems, and digital marketing. However, this may lead to job losses, unequal access to AI technology, and greater dependence on powerful tech companies. Developing countries and small tourism businesses could fall behind.
Goal:
Create strategies that support fair and inclusive economic growth by helping countries and workers adapt to AI while protecting employment and small businesses in the tourism sector.
Committee B: AI and Environmental Sustainability in Tourism
Issue:
AI can help protect the environment by predicting tourist flow, reducing waste, and supporting eco-friendly travel. However, the energy used by AI systems and poor data management can also harm the environment.
Goal:
Develop global solutions that use AI to make tourism greener and more sustainable—reducing pollution, preventing over-tourism, and protecting natural sites.
Committee C: Cultural and Social Impacts of AI in Tourism
Issue:
AI helps promote cultural heritage through virtual tours and translation tools, but it can also make tourism experiences less personal and lead to cultural homogenization. Local traditions and small communities might be ignored or replaced by globalized digital tourism.
Goal:
Find ways to use AI to preserve cultural diversity and strengthen local communities while ensuring tourism remains authentic and socially inclusive.
Committee D: Ethical and Privacy Challenges of AI in Tourism
Issue:
AI in tourism often collects travelers’ personal information to improve services, but this raises concerns about data privacy, surveillance, and algorithm bias. Many countries lack clear rules for the ethical use of AI in tourism.
Goal:
Create international guidelines to ensure AI in tourism is transparent, ethical, and protects tourists’ privacy and rights across all nations.
